iStumbler on the web

"These days, you're likely to find free Wi-Fi just by strolling down the street with your laptop and periodically checking for available networks with free software (such as Alf Watt's iStumbler)."

Glenn Fleishman in Macworld secrets, June 2005

"A million-dollar news van is no longer a match for a punk with a PowerBook and iStumbler."

SFIST

"Alf Watt's iStumbler is a slick utility that sniffs out wireless networks in your immediate surroundings. [If] you are having intermittent connection issues with your own wireless network, you can troubleshoot the problem with your new best friend, iStumbler. It reveals the wireless channel each network is using, allowing you to choose a free [one.]"

Mac Home, April 2005

"The [Bonjour] or multicast DNS (mDNS) scanning is also useful given how widely Apple has deployed the technology. iStumbler lets you browse for mDNS services and connect to them through a single interface instead of needing to use different programs, such as a Web browser and the Finder, to attach to different kinds of services.

"This version also improves the scanning and display of Wi-Fi networks, which system administrators will find useful when trying to pinpoint signal problems or glitches"

Glenn Fleishman
In TidBITS

"Another popular network discovery tool, [iStumbler], is even simpler than MacStumbler, in that there is really nothing to configured. Just fire it up and it will find all available networks for you, complete with a real-time signal and noise meter."

Wireless Hacks

"iStumbler provides the user with a very straightforward interface to view current wireless networks in range of the users computer. iStumbler tells you the SSID (station name), signal strength, channel, whether or not the station is encrypted with WEP, and much more in its easy-to-read interface."
