http://www.istumbler.net/

iStumbler is a free, open source tool for finding wireless
networks and devices with your AirPort equipped Macintosh.
iStumbler combines a compact user interface with a real time
graph of signal strength and complete debugging information
such as network type, name and mac address. Real-time visual
feedback of signal strength and encryption allows you to
quickly find open networks, perform site surveys or just
have a look at your wireless neighborhood.

Release 84 completely remade iStumbler into an extensible,
high performance and indispensable wireless scanning
utility. Plugins provide unprecedented flexibility,
aggressively multi-threading improves performance and
iStumber now monitors the network you've joined as well as
nearby networks providing twice as much information as
previous version.

Release 85 fixes a crashing bug reported by some users,
tightens up memory management and correctly handles
forgotten nodes.

iStumbler on the web

Another popular network discovery tool, [iStumbler], is even simpler than MacStumbler, in that there is really nothing to configured. Just fire it up and it will find all available networks for you, complete with a real-time signal and noise meter.
Wireless Hacks

"iStumbler provides the user with a very straightforward interface to view current wireless networks in range of the users computer. iStumbler tells you the SSID (station name), signal strength, channel, whether or not the station is encrypted with WEP, and much more in its easy-to-read interface."
